Vacation

This is my summer vacation.. haha well I coudn't think about a better way of starting the post. Is there a good old way to start a Blog post.? like we use "Once upon a time..." in story telling.? hmm then there should be a way of ending like "they all lived happily and ever after." ;) never mind.

So as I said before this is my summer vacation and I'm spending my time here in Kandy, my home sweet home. Things are bit different now.. I couldn't find any of my good old school buddies. Seems like they all got their own jobs. ;) Anyway that how it should be.

Vacation period is the most busiest, but staying home could keep everything in an ordered fashion. At least I get enough food here. haha

I watch lots of movies as usual and got back to reading books. Yeah sounds bit crazy but that's what I always wanted; reading books; which I'm not good at. :P

I love coding.. so I don't hesitate to call it my passion. lol. Apart from sinking in research papers, wondering of getting in to Hogwards or flying away like Peter in Heroes, I was doing some ajax stuff, hosted a new project called "qtwitt", played a lot with Google App Engine, had to do lot of work for IIT Gadget Challenge, planned a Firefox launch (beach) party ;) , did some XUL stuff, started working on a research paper :P, switched to "Blogger-Draft" and started working on a Facebook App.

Ah, I kicked the hope of getting an internship @ Google away ( may be Google don't want me to be there :P ) , stopped regretting about Google Summer of Code and lost my web hosting service ( due to financial crisis lol ).

A goal

Having goals in life is one of best things. IMHO people should have dreams and then, their dreams should improve as goals. I had lot of dreams in my life which I made success by giving them the status - "goal", and yes there are lot of failures, too. But sometimes chasing after things makes me really tired.

I still remember my childhood, I always thought people can have a restful life after their A/L s. hehe Yeah it sounds really funny, I know. After doing my grade V examination the next target was the O/L s, then Advanced Level made a real pressure on me and I though I was gonna be a Doctor, lol. But I'm really satisfied what I do currently.

I'm still chasing after goals.., After finishing the High School education the next thing was completing the higher studies...

I guess this is the nature of having goals, but I see no endpoint. Chasing after something, then we find another one. Chase again, and find something else.. I wonder when this is end.

Extraterrestrial

After completing "90 orbits around the sun", Sir Arthur C. Clarke passed away, today (19th March 2008) at his Colombo residence.

He was a science fiction autho... ... ... .. ~~!!

No, It's useless to write anything about himself/his biography here, because I'm not good enough to do so. If you have no idea about Sir Arthur ... oh great!, please comment here because you are from another planet.

I just wanted to publish this YouTube video, and if you have time(just 9mins and 3secs) please watch it. It's a video recorded on his 90th Birthday at his Colombo residence and here is some interesting excerpt.

"As I complete 90 orbits, I have no regrets and no personal ambitions. But if I may be allowed just three wishes, they will be these..,

Firstly, I would like to see some evidence of extraterrestrial life. I always believe that we are not alone in the universe. ... .... ... ...."

"Secondly, I would like to see is kick our current addiction to oil and adopt clean energy sources. ... ... .... ...."

"I will dearly wish to see last seen peace established in Sri Lanka as soon as possible. ... .... ... .... This is Arthur Clarke saying thank you and good bye from Colombo."

Writers' Strike Over..., Now What..?

Crap Warning ! ;) Read if you really don't have anything else to do.. ;)

Finally the Writers Guild of America Strike came to an end. Now what about our favorite shows.. ;) ?

Heroes :
No chance of seeing a new episodes till Fall (Oct 2008). too bad ah? :( Checkout Heroes episodes list on Wikipedia.

Prison Break :
Oh! What a Season .. ;) The Season 3 finale (hopefully) "The Art of the Deal" screwed up all the fans... and they must begin a new Season because there are lot of things to be fixed.. Specially Sara! ;)

According to Wikipedia there may be some future episodes of Season 3 ... but at the moment this Wiki page can't be trusted.. Because.., several days ago someone had updated the prioson break episodes list page on Wikipedia by adding the following information about a new episode of Season 3...

"The Messenger" Karyn Usher Greg Yaitanes April 2008 58
Michael learns more about Jason Lief and is contacted by a mysterious woman claiming to have pertinent information; Sucre is forced to make an uneasy alliance; Gretchen reveals a shocking secret, while Mahone has a revelation of his own.

Then the page was modified and above details had been removed. Today [24th Feb] the page was modified again and the episode is there.. (It may have been removed again at the time you are reading this if so check the page history.. ;) funny hehe).

Finally they MUST bring Sara back...

Well after watching the S 3 E 13 Sara's fans can still have a hope to see her back in the show. :)

If you want to do something to save her then here you go..
Save Sara Tancredi
Save the good Dr

Supernatural :
Supernatural fans have to wait until this April... see this Wiki page. till then I suggest you to watch "Terminator : The Sarah Connor Chronicles" :P

That's all and thanks for reading my crap! hehe :P

Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, RMS, Father of Free Software! paid his visit to Sri Lanka. kinda old news so you might already know more about it. Though it made me to stop writing the same thing again and again, the good news is I also could be able to attend the event + have some photos to share (a very few)... :)

It was a great chance to know about Freedom + GNU from his own words, and I must say the speech was simply awesome.

Checkout my photos @Picasa.

And the blog post by bud will cover almost everything about the visit.. :)

Finnaly A BIG Thank for ICTA - SLIIT and every single figure who supported to bring this greatest person to the land..!

Guess What?

The .........

It was flying...
not really, but that's how it was thinking,
at the beginning.

As soon as it felt,
that it was released from the tight bond,
which was a burden for a long time.
It thought it was flying.

As soon as it felt,
the sky was hugging it and touching all over,
It thought it was flying.

But, as soon as it lost the control;..
The difference between flying and falling,
began to clear...

Yeah.. It was falling..
It was going away from it's "family",
letting another new one to take it's place..
Guess what is it?

Belated , Anniversary ?

After seen this post on Bud's place.., I also wanted to check how long it has been since I started blogging. Yeah, according to the very first post which I made on this blog, its almost been a year.

Being a one year old person in blogsphere is kinda cool, ain't it? ;)

Last week, while I was reading my first blog post (again) there were few things that I noticed about my self which can be considered as improvements.. well, if you read my very first blog post you will easily notice that the writing style, contents, language etc.. has developed throughout the year of time. I hope to do something new in the near future,.. so keep in touch.

Finally a big thank for everyone who has read this blog at least once.. :)

Cheers!

Another rocking season

[-- No spoilers --]

Just like all other Heroes fans, I was also ecstatic all over the day(25th). Though Heroes Season 2 released on 24th Sep, it was 25th for us, here Sri Lanka(GMT +5.30), due to the differences of time zones. Finally the legit series was in the air around 9A.M(GMT +5.30) on 25th.

This time it took me more than 4hrs to get Heroes downloaded, because of the lesser number of seeds. The playback time of the episode 1 is about 51mins. But I didn't feel that much time passing when I was watching it, because all of my sensors might be caught by the profound feeling of Heroes. ;) haha.

As usual this one was also an awesome episode with a 'wow' ending. And it is a great beginning of another great series. Get ready for another rocking season of Heroes. !!

If you are interest you can try this cool Google Desktop Gadget which brings show related details right on to your desktop, made by Benjamin. :)

Cheers!

Happy!

Since last week, I was looking for some Linux stuffs.. but didn't have much time to go for a hunting. Today at the lunch time with a sudden decision, I went to TLC and bought a cool Tux !. :)

It's great to have a nice Tux looking at you all the time sitting near your PC, specially while you are on a coding rampage. haha :D

I hope Gleek will like Tuxi, too. ( wil tell you about Gleek in another post.. ;) )
Time to go Kandy(home) because tomorrow is a special day. (litle).

Cheers! Have fun,
- Lala

P.S. Thanks Bud for bringing that mini tux here...!

Ready to Code!

After submitting the source code for Google Summer of code project, I got several chances to do more hacks with Linux stuff. But for me, there were some issues while coding in Linux.. Main things were the inadequate HD space, and lacking of a 'comfi' Linux distro.

I have been using Ubuntu/Kubuntu for sometime, but it couldn't make me feel comfortable in most aspects. Last Monday (26) I got corrupted my Ubuntu installation (again) so decided to switch to OpenSUSE.

It took about 20 hrs to download the full DVD (3.6GB torrent), and as usual I got an common error while doing the installation. (Most of the time I get common errors while installing Linux distros. ;) ) The error occurred during the partition process, so after some googleing and with the help of my Kubuntu CD I manged to fix the partition table and yay! OpenSuse got into my laptop smoothly. :D

It is the buddy distro that I was looking for, so simply I'm in love with OpenSuse. haha.
Hopefully it'll be a 'comfi' distro and will cause to throw one issue out, from the list of issues.

What about the HD problem..? Ok.. I went to 'Epsi' and bought a 250 GB SATA. :D Mmm! not only the HD, also bought some little little gadgets/stuffs.. hehe

Actually it was like this.., to work with 250GB HD I thought I would need more memory so I bought 1G Ram. With 1G Ram and an onboard VGA I have nothing to do. ;) so got an Asus - Nvidia 7300. Then this new VGA didn't match with my old lovely 14" CRT... so it made me to buy a 17" wide screen LCD. :D

On the way home I bought "DIRT" (PC racing Game) to play with my new Logitech Rumblepad 2. ( Ah forgot to tell, it was also in the list )

I spent whole night with my new gadgets and yeah they worked perfectly for me. An especial mention about the Rumblepad, guys trust me it's awesome!. 10 buttons, 8-way D-pad and two analog sticks, which give the 360-degree control and vibration feedback will make you fly..

Now I do have a coool workspace.! so I'm ready to code!!!

P.S. Though I got a 250G HD it's still on the desk.. need to find SATA data n power cable soon.

Updated : Got SATA data cable and a power cable.. Now 250G is live.! ;) [ Thanks Chami ].

Cheers!
- Lala.

Thoughts Aside

Breaking Microsoft’s monopoly is probably everyone’s aim these days. A skilled programmer can launch a site within hours with the use of 70-620, an online certification, to promote Linux operating systems. This can be done at a low cost by getting web hosting services from companies like anhosting, or others like midphase. With the use of wireless internet the web site can be constantly updated and material can be promoted.

FlashBack

As usual the vacation is the most busiest time that we could ever have.! For me, I wrote at least 3-2 blog posts per week before the vacation and almost 0 in the period of vacation.

However the following things are some of the 'hot treads' that I wanted to include in a blog post since several weeks ago... finally I could do that at least as a 'flashback' :D

  • I got a chance to be an 'API Guru' for Google Desktop. So including me there are five Gurus, congrats! buddies.
  • Working hard on Google Summer of Code, since the deadline is around end of August. Btw I got through the mid-term evaluation of GSoC.. and yeah! got the mid-term payments, too.
  • Looked for a place to buy an N800, ( please guys not N80 - specially Softlogic people. ) but couldn't find a place in here SL, so now looking for a person who will be able to get it down for me.. ( will you? please let me know.. )
  • mmmmm... there are some on going works.. well, I'll tell you more later,, hopefully not as a flashback. ;)
Cheers!
- Lala.

Thoughts Aside
A toolbar similar to Google’s Desktop 4.5 gadget can be made with stock market options. But for this one would need to run through courses like VCP-310. The skin of the toolbar can be purchased from a web templates site. The marketing of the toolbar can be done through a site, which can be created with the help of 70-282 course. With cheap hosting from bluehost, there is hardly any cost to it. The web design can be created or bought. And implementing email marketing is probably a smart move.
